Key Stage 2

🔬 Science

Inspire curiosity about the natural world through practical enquiry, scientific vocabulary, and evidence-based thinking.

Overview

Primary Science introduces key concepts in biology, chemistry, and physics through hands-on investigation and guided observation. Pupils learn to ask questions, make predictions, and communicate findings.

The curriculum develops knowledge of living things, materials, forces, and Earth systems while strengthening scientific literacy and confidence for future science study.

What Students Study

Scientific Enquiry Skills

Children learn how scientists investigate, record evidence, and draw conclusions.

  • Asking testable questions and making predictions
  • Planning fair tests and observing carefully
  • Recording and interpreting results

Life and Earth Sciences

Pupils explore living organisms, habitats, life cycles, and environmental relationships.

  • Classification and adaptation
  • Human biology and healthy living
  • Ecosystems and environmental responsibility

Physical Sciences

Learners investigate forces, light, sound, electricity, and properties of materials.

  • States of matter and material changes
  • Forces, motion, and simple machines
  • Energy, circuits, and practical applications

Assessment & Progress

Progress is measured through practical tasks, concept checks, and end-of-topic reflections.

  • Knowledge quizzes and vocabulary checks
  • Investigation write-ups and evidence use
  • Teacher feedback on scientific reasoning
