Overview

Primary French gives pupils a strong foundation in pronunciation, vocabulary, and simple sentence building through interactive language learning.

Lessons combine everyday themes, cultural understanding, and communication practice so children gain confidence using French in meaningful contexts.

What Students Study

Vocabulary and Core Language

Pupils build key topic vocabulary and simple structures for day-to-day communication.

Listening and Speaking

Children practise pronunciation and spoken interaction through guided oral activities.

Reading and Writing

Learners read short texts and produce simple written French with increasing independence.

Assessment & Progress

Progress is assessed through speaking tasks, vocabulary retrieval, and short reading/writing checks.

There are no external exams for this subject - only internal assessments.

Course Duration

The Primary programme runs across Key Stage 2 (Years 4 to 6). Students have access to live online lessons, interactive learning materials and regular teacher support throughout the programme.

Entry Requirements

  • No prior knowledge of French is required
  • Students should be aged 8 to 11 (Years 4 to 6)
  • A prior school report or internal placement assessment may be required
